Coastal Family Hospice Volunteers was founded in 1979, when the hospice movement brought grassroots energy to improve end-of-life care. Our mission is to provide caring companions to the dying, comfort to grieving family and friends, and education and support to our volunteers.
Hospice is a philosophy of care that emphasizes quality of life in the face of life-limiting illness. It neither hastens nor postpones death but seeks to bring comfort and support to patients, and to their families, with the goal of creating a caring circle around the members of our community when they may need it most.
Coastal Family Hospice Volunteers is licensed by the State of Maine to provide volunteer, non-medical, confidential support to patients and families who are facing death and to those who are dealing with loss. We provide education and support to our volunteers and raise awareness of the hospice philosophy and our services in the communities we serve.
CFHV is an independent, nonprofit with 501(c) (3) status. We depend on donations from members of the communities we serve for a large part of our operating budget. Other sources of income are grants from local funders, memorial donations, and fees paid by the Medicare-certified hospice for our contracted services. The mailing address for donations is Coastal Family Hospice Volunteers, 91 Camden Street, Suite 408, Rockland, ME 04841.
